In 1983 interested citizens joined together to plan a celebration for the 1984 bicentennial of the coming of the United Empire Loyalists to Wallace in 1784. One of the proposals from those celebrations was to establish a summer time museum. From the success of the first year of operation, volunteers saw a vital need for collecting, preserving and displaying local history. The Wallace and Area Museum is in its 17th year of operation. The museum is operated by a small full and part time staff and several volunteers. Staff: David Dewar, Charlotte Moody, Ellen Higgins. Volunteers: Marian Dotten, Bill Boyle, Bernice Elliott, Irma & Murray Reeves, Richard and Glenda Waugh, Cathy Grant, Emery Grant, Arthur Scott, Eileen Canfield, Norma Dewar, Kathleen MacNutt, Ron MacNutt, Scott Wallace, Elmer Mills and others. |
